Breast implants, when used
Breast implants, when used for cosmetic breast augmentation, are not typically covered by health insurance. In general, a procedure must be deemed 'medically necessary' in order for health insurance to cover it. When breast implants are used for breast reconstruction (such as after a mastectomy performed to treat breast cancer), they may be covered by health insurance.
